Plant are classified according to their assumed relatedness. The Species is the basic unit of classification based on the structure of the flowers, fruits and other organs. All species are classified hierarchically. Related species are grouped into a Genus ; related genera into a Family; related families into an Order; related order into a Class, eg flowering plants whose seeds contains two seeds-leaves (dicot) and flowering plants whose seeds contain one seed-leaf (monocot); related into a Division. eg ferns and flowering plants; and the related divisions into a Kingdom. That's how a relation and plants classification read to understand and scientifically standard everywhere.
Common names form an important heritage for indigenous plants (Fruits or vegetables). However , some names may used only in certain region, some plants may have different names in different region; and some different plants may share the same common names. For examples in Malaysia Carica Papaya called as Betik, Gandul (in Indonesia), Paw paw (in Mexico), Big Melon (in North America) and many others. To ensure and international understanding of the same plants, the scientific name is extremely important. Each plant species receives a Latin name of two words. The first words to indicating the Genus (Capitalised) and the second words indicating the species (Lowercase) and both must written in italic characters eg Carica papaya . Some names added at the end with the name of the founder of the plants such as Linn, Jack etc.

That's how I has to understand during first year study in University. Until now I remember few botanical names for more than 30 years in my mind. Some of the botanical names I never forget were Impomea batatas (Sweet potato), Solanum melongena (Brinjal), Carica papaya (Papaya), Capsicum annum (Chilli), Oryza sativa (paddy), Hevea brasilliensis (Rubber), Theobroma cacao (Cocoa), Musa paradisica Linn (Banana), Melastoma malabratrichum (Senduduk), Pandanus spp (Pandan), Brassica spp (Sawi) and many others. It is good for us to understand how the classification of plants names so that we are internationally thought the similar plants together.
